I use a liability type account to track a mortgage balance by splitting checking account payments into IntExp and a transfer to the liability to reduce the balance. I want to export a.QIF file to convert and load into a relational database. My.QDF file contains about 40 accounts, with probably a dozen liability accounts from over the years, with all but the problem account being inactive and retained for Net Worth history. The entry and calculation of split data seems to function correctly, but when I do the export, the Account Type line in the.QIF file correctly begins with 'T' but is followed by five or six invalid characters instead of a valid entry. If I export the.QIF file with only the account before any transactions are entered, it functions correctly. As soon as I enter the first payment in checking, the liability account in the.QIF file that is exported is corrupted as described. If I change all the checking records back to a split of 'Mort Prin' and 'Mort Int' eliminating the transfers, delete and recreate the Liability account, and then redo the split using the Liability account, the Quicken data 'looks' OK, but the exported.QIF file is corrupted as soon as the first split is recorded. I don't want to use Quicken arbitrary calculations on the mortgage but to just record actual history. I've not had good results with a number of the things Q tries to do for me. I usually enter the split after the liability payment has been processed and the actual interest costs have been calculated by the financial institution and is available on their website.
