That program is only extracted temporarily and is never under any circumstances used in legitimate copies of the product.
The only reason why this file would be detected after the installation completes is only if it was used with a pirate serial number (not blacklisted numbers). Later the same evening, Lefteris added another statement, telling customers that they would never do anything to violate trust of simmers.
He then commited to this by uploading a new version of the installer without the “test.exe” file in it. This is one of the worst way to protect their products. Stopping piracy is a good idea, but leaking out passwords is not. By mistake, if a legitimate user enters a single character wrong and ends up getting his passwords lost, is horrible.
Or if the user re-enters too many times due to upgrades/installations, they are screwed. Even then, screwing up the life of even a pirate who is also a human is horrible. Passwords are something which have the life of an entire person. Banking, email, confidential sites like office sites etc.
They should rather get a better serial checking system and not go to such methods. For instance, if the person’s bank account password gets leaked, and he loses all his hard earned money, his life is gone! I have read about so many instances where they commit suicide. This is just horrible. Some might say that you can just go for legal help.
Let me tell you one thing, legal help is not free/cheap everywhere. Example in India, getting legal help is very very costly and you mostly end up losing more than you will get back. I have lost all my respect for FSLABS today. This is something that I hope FSLABS gets sued for and shut down forever. I would rather not have such a great product than have someone have all my banking info. This is where scammers start.
